ABC Change in Terminology

Dear Member

Please be advised that the term ‘Community Press’ has been replaced by ‘Local Media’. In terms of a joint decision taken by Print Media SA and the Media development and Diversity Agency, the industry now recognizes the definitions indicated in the MDDA Act of 2002.

•    Community Media – means any media project that is owned and controlled by a community where any financial surplus generated is reinvested in the media project; and “community” means a geographically founded community or any group of persons or sector of the public having a specific ascertainable common interest;

All previously titled Community Press Newspaper Certificates and reports will from now be termed Local Newspaper.
